The basics:
1) Little Black Dress: The LBD is a staple in womens' closets around the world. Pioneered by Chanel herself, the LBD is literally something no girl should live without. Casual or dressed up, the LBD is essential to any complete wardrobe. There are many variations of the LBD, you just need to find one that you are comfortable in, that suits your personal style and that looks incredible.
2) Classic White Shirt: The classic white button-down is a staple in the wardrobes of both men and women. Elegant, simple and tailored, a crisp, white shirt is a priceless item of clothing that is both practical and flattering. A good, well-fitting white shirt can be worn with anything and is appropriate for both the grocery store and the boardroom.
3) A Flirty Sundress: A sundress is a perfect item of clothing in my opinion. They are so fun, flirty and adorable and ALWAYS appropriate (OK, maybe not always)...Sundresses are flattering on almost every body type and can be suited to all different styles. Cuts and tailoring vary greatly depending on the brand so just be sure you find a dress that is flattering and weather and occasion appropriate. (For example, Lilly Pulitzer may be perfect for Carolina Cup but a solid sundress may be more appropriate for an outdoor wedding.)
4) The Perfect Pair of Jeans: Jeans are a staple in my closet. I am one-hundred percent addicted to well-fitting jeans that flatter my figure (who wouldn't be honestly?). I am petite so I understand the frustration that comes with finding pants that fit and flatter your shape but that are also fashionable and comfortable. I prefer a darker wash jean, but that really depends on your personal style (though I do find dark jeans to be more appropriate in all situations).
5) Comfortable, Casual Flats: A casual pair of good, well-made ballerina flats are a must-have for every girl. They can be pair with jeans, a skirt or a dress depending on the occasion, not to mention they are just so stinking cute! However, as many girls know, pretty, comfortable ballerina flats are hard to come by. Not only are many of them ugly or unflattering on your feet, but a lot of the time they can be very uncomfortable! As impossible as finding a good pair may be, look no further!
6) "Everything" Bag: Every girl needs an "everything" bag. The bag that she carries with her at all times and that can carry everything she needs at a moments notice. An "everything" bag should be mildly appropriate for all occasions and should be practical but attractive.
7) An Appropriate Power Suit: I think that every woman should have a suit that can command the attention of anyone in the office, or the coffee shop for that matter. A beautiful, well-tailored suit is a MUST for every working woman. No girl should be without a complete suit if she has a "big girl" job. Be it a skirt suit or a pantsuit, a good suit is necessary.
8) Everyday Cardigan: A cardigan is part of my everyday uniform. I wear one almost every single day; over jeans, tees, dresses-you name it, I'll wear it with a cardigan. I love them. They are hands-down my favorite clothing item. I think that every girl should have multiple cardigans because they are cute, practical and can shield against the cold (who doesn't love that?!).
9) A GOOD Bra: OK, we all know what it's like when a girl doesn't wear a good, supportive bra with the end result being very, very upsetting. Every woman, regardless of size needs a supportive, smoothing, full coverage bra that looks good under most tops. Every now and then different dresses and tops need a special bra, but an everyday bra is a must-have.
10) Simple, Appropriate Jewelry: Pearls. End of story. Pearls are the best earrings to wear with anything and they are always timeless and elegant. I have two pairs of pearl earrings, a medium pair and a small pair. I find that anything bigger than a medium size pearl start to look like something out of the Little Mermaid, so be careful when purchasing them!
